2-7-9 AC20 New Build - Low Volume

This is my newest build, basically an AC30 preamp with a MOSFET cathode follower into a pair of cathode bias 6V6GTs. It also has a DPDT to switch between fender and vox style tone stacks, meaning the location of the mid resistor, not the location of the tonestack, which remains cathode follower driven in both settings.

This is a low volume clip. It is brighter and less full than how it sounds with the master volume turned all the way up. The amp also has a little more gain at proper high volumes, as this is basically 90% or more preamp gain in the clip. The amp has a *bunch* of distortion available. Not much clean headroom, but who needs that?! Very Happy

The guitar is an Agile AL-2000 with a Seymour Duncan JB in the bridge, plugged straight into the amp, one cord, no effects. All i change throughout the clip is the guitar's volume knob level.

Amp settings. In this clip the "gain" knob is at about 3:00, the "treble" about 3:00, the "bass" at around 11:00, the tonestack is set to the "vox style", the "cut" control is set for full brightness, and lastly, the "master volume" is set way way down at just under 8:00. Room volume was about loud TV level, loud enough to not hear the picking, but not loud enough to really let the amp 'breathe' the way it likes to. Later on i will see about recording some more clips with other guitars at full volume for a proper taste of what the amp can do. I chose to basically use the settings that i would with the master up full, rather than try to counter the brightness that turning the master down so far brings in. So it is a little harsh maybe, let me know what you think though.

Anyhow, there it is.
